Living History
Kirchenberg 1 – the address itself smacks of a house with history. The house is 800 years old and was owned at one time by the Starhemberg family though has remained unused during the last few decades. It has been restored, carefully modernised and converted into Hotel Nigl. Where necessary, steel girders and exposed concrete have been carefully integrated. We have tried to maintain as many of the original elements as possible. History cannot simply be set aside.
White walls, slate slabs, light larch wood and glass provide the perfect atmosphere to relax body and mind. In the sheltered courtyard, which faces south-west, we have used paving stones and grass and have planted roses and walnut trees as a symbol of beauty and constancy
- calling back to mind the garden from one's childhood.
